Economy
Agriculture, forestry, and fishing: Agriculture is the occupation of most of the residents of the Andaman Islands. Principal crops include rice, coconuts, betel (areca nuts), fruits, and spices (such as turmeric). Rubber, oil palms, and cashews also are important.

 In addition to farming there is a small forestry sector on the islands, which focuses on production of sawn wood for domestic use, surpluses are exported to the Indian mainland.

1.PORT BLAIR 

Port Blair is a popular tourist destination and it is the capital city of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Situated on the ancient trade route between India and Myanmar, the Andamans were visited by the navy of the English East India Company in 1789, and in 1872 they were linked administratively by the British to the Nicobar Islands. 4.ROSS ISLAND

Named after Captain Daniel Ross, the Ross Island is now renamed as the “Netaji Shubash Chandra Bose Dweep” by prime minister Narendra Modi in 2018. It is a very small destination that comes under the south Andaman district.

Although most of the attractions in Andaman are famous for  the beaches, where as Ross Island brings a bit of history to the table that makes your vacation complete.
The ruins of these old buildings made by Indian prisoners are still present at Ross, textured by thick roots of peepal and serie trees that takes us back to an era, long gone yet still remembered.

All operations in the isles, including the construction of Cellular Jail was overseen from this island, which also served as the residence of the old Chief Commissioner.

How to reach  : The island can only be reached by taking a boat or ferry from the Water Sports Complex, Portblair which will take you directly to the jetty in less than 15 minutes.

5.BARATHANG ISLAND

Baratang is famous for its natural wonders,dense mangrove creeks.

 It is the first gateway up north from the capital city, located between Middle and South Andaman. Due to its distance from (approximately 100 kms).

How to reach  : You will have to travel through the ‘Andaman Trunk Road’ (ATR) and move in a convoy with one short vehicle-ferry connection among the islands. This is a four-hour bumpy ride but the lush jungles and blue waters can make the drive quite interesting.
